Hi Lulu,
The budget for bus shelters in the forecast for the current fiscal year is I believe £2K.
It was on that basis that I proposed to the Town Council that a community project be set up to match fund a small bit of that available money, through a mixture of external grants and volunteer time.
Frankly a small bit would be so small it is probably not worth bothering about. But you never know, it could just make a difference
I believe that is a viable approach, though will take some smart thinking.
What I have in mind is a mix of community service labour (Rob, the Town Manager is onto this anyway, but despite all the gloom you read about in the CP...and as I am sure Peter my candidate colleague may confirm....the labour pool is not endless and needs a lot of forward booking), augmented by public grant funding, but with serious added value from a local construction company.
I am also approaching local funding providers unique to Ventnor, and seeing if we can integrate the tidy up and subsequent looking after through a fixed revenue stream from IWC Highways. Providing we work closely with Rob, our Town Manager, then all should be well.
If you could do a little research for us Lulu, voluntarily and very kindly indeed, and find out if there any heritage links to the structures, that would help a lot.
I have not had the time Lulu to investigate this to the point of putting in a costed project outline. Some extra people time from others (qualified builders) would be very welcome!!!
You may see where everyone is coming from here?
The town council depends on the voluntary and community sector far more than many appreciate, as does the county council.
If we can all take this on board, and look for effective community partnerships, then the precept allocated will go a whole way further
